Our Services

Examinations

With annual vaccinations and illness, your pet will receive a complete head to toe examination, a written record of our findings and recommendations for your records and referral, plus, detailed handouts describing procedures, diseases, etc.

Vaccinations

We use only the highest quality vaccinations available.  We ensure proper handling and administration.  Each vaccination protocol is tailored to each individual pet.

Laboratory

We have a complete in-hospital laboratory.  We can run CBC’s, Urinalyses, Cytology’s, Heartworm tests, Fecal intestinal parasite screens, and most serum chemistries.

Radiology

We have a state of the art computerized high frequency x-ray machine, capable of producing excellent radiographs almost every time.  We do the usual diagnostic and survey radiographs, plus OFA  hips and elbows, and contrast radiography.

Grooming

We do bathing and brushing, but no clipping.  Baths are done by appointment.  Dogs and cats are dropped off in the morning between 8 and 8:30 am and go home later that day.

Boarding

We do boarding for our patients only.  We have individual kennels where the pets spend most of the time.  Our boarding dogs go out a minimum of 3 times per day.  We have four 4’ x 12’ outside runs for the dogs to exercise in.  Inside, we are limited to two 4’ x 5’ runs, plus numerous kennels.  If you are planning on going away during a popular time (holidays), schedule your appointment early.

Surgery

Our primary concerns when we do surgery are safety, comfort and rapid return to function.

Safety

Pre-anesthetic blood screening:  We recommend pre-anesthetic blood screening on all patients prior to undergoing anesthesia and require it on ill patients and patients over 5 years of age.  The liver and kidneys metabolize many anesthetic agents; therefore, we want to make sure that these organs are functioning properly prior to anesthesia. Anesthesia increases the stresses on these organs.  Knowing the status of these organs helps us to prevent complications.

Anesthesia:  All of our patients are maintained on gas anesthesia.  The anesthetic gas that we use is halothane.  This is a safe anesthetic, which allows for good control of pain and rapid recovery.  Gas anesthetics are nice, because we always have control over the amount of anesthetic the patients receives and the level of anesthesia.  Anesthetics are chosen as determined by the patient and procedure.

Monitoring:  We have a licensed veterinary technician on staff.  She was trained in anesthesia at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  She is always present to monitor our patients while under anesthesia.
We can monitor the patient’s EKG, Oxygen saturation (pulse ox), Heart rate, Blood Pressure and temperature electronically with our state of the art monitoring equipment.  We use the level of monitoring needed as determined by the patient and procedure.  This is done routinely and has no additional charge.

Comfort

Pain medications:  We use pre-op and post-op pain medications for most of our surgical patients.  Pain medications are determined by the patient and the procedure performed.  The fee for pain meds is included in the price of routine surgeries.  (Spays, neuters, and de-claws).

Post-op care:  Our staff of animal loving people is diligent about making sure your pet is comfortable.  They are constantly making sure the pet has clean bedding, is recovering as expected, offered food and water ASAP, and allowed to get out often to eliminate.
